Therefore we know how important and sometimes how difficult it is, to find the accomodation that’s just right to relax and reenergize after a full day of exploring. This is how it works.
Getting here
Wild Bird Lodge is located at Risegasse 31, 3704 Krattigen. Our appartment is on the ground floor on the left. There are direct trains to Spiez from Zurich Flughafen, there’s a bus from Spiez to Krattigen. A five to ten minute walk will take you to the Lodge.
Parking
There is a reserved parking spot for you opposite our terrace, marked ‘Wild Bird Lodge’.
Check-in time
You can check-in individually between 4 pm and 10 pm.
Keys
You will find a key safe in the lower compartment of our letterbox next to the front door. The key inside opens the front door as well as the door to the appartment (up one flight of stairs from the front door).
Cellar
There is a cellar available for you to use for storage. You’ll find the cellar key in the box on the desk in the bedroom.

Krattigen may be small and a bit off the beaten track, but that’s just why we like it so much. It’s almost perfectly placed for everything you might want to do in summer or winter (and the seasons in between). It may be your first time here, but certainly not your last. Here’s a map with lots of wonderful things to do in the area while you’re here.
Spring activities
Suspension bridge in Leissigen
The panorama hiking trail around the lake of Thun is a great way to experience spring time in the Bernes mountains. The trail passes behind our lodge and leads to the panoramic suspension bridge in Leissigen, offering spectacular views over the lake as well as the sourrounding mountains and villages. You can walk on to Meielisalp and enjoy a drink or a snack made from local produce. Walking time from our lodge to Meielisalp is approximately 2 hrs. Download the map here.
Breakfast on Niesen mountain
A great way to experience the Bernese mountains is a trip up Niesen, travelling on the funicular train, which departs from Mülenen every 30 minutes. The iconic train runs on one of the longest funicular lines in Europe. Season opening: 29. April 2023. Make sure to reserve your ticket online, so you don’t have to queue. You can enjoy a brunch on the mountain top and look out for local wild birds like the mountain jackdaw. Every year in June there’s also a run leading up the stairs next to the train - it’s so popular that entry tickets are given away in a raffle. If you do take part, let us know how it went!
